Common questions about firearms training in Northern Virginia

Frequently Asked Questions

To obtain your Virginia CCW permit, you must complete an in-person, certified firearms training course (like the 6-hour NRA Basic Pistol) to demonstrate competence. Live Fire Instruction performs this training at the NRA Range, provides your state-recognized certificate, and guides you through the Circuit Court application process.
Training is held at the NRA Range in Fairfax, Virginia, a professional indoor facility that is accessible from throughout Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland.
The First Step course is 3+ hours, the NRA Basic Pistol with CCW course is 6 hours, and private lessons run 60 minutes. Most options can be completed in a single day.
You are welcome to bring your own firearm, but it is not required. Equipment guidance is provided based on the course you select.
